I’m Louisa Kiwana Olafuyi, a Ugandan-British entrepreneur, producer, author and speaker working at the intersection of children’s media, culture and business.
I’m the Co-founder and COO of Kunda Kids, an independent, IP-first media company creating globally relevant children’s entertainment across animation, music, publishing, digital media and experiences.
Alongside my husband and co-founder, Oladele Olafuyi, I created the preschool brands Kunda and Friends and Thandi’s Playtime. What began with a belief that children deserved better, more culturally expansive stories has grown into a media business that reaches millions of families worldwide.
Fun fact: Kunda means “love” in one of Uganda’s local languages. We named the company after my son, who was named after his great-grandmother.
The things that shape my thinking
My work goes beyond media. I write and speak about intellectual property, children’s media, culture, founder leadership and the realities of building and growing creative businesses.
My perspective comes from experience on both sides: working inside some of the world’s largest organisations and now building an independent company from the ground up.
On a personal note…
I’m a mother of three, including twins and a neurodivergent child, so children’s media is both my industry and part of my everyday life.
I see firsthand how quickly children absorb the characters, language, music and ideas around them.
It’s also why representation, for me, has never simply been about children seeing themselves on screen. Culture gives them a way to understand themselves and a window into lives beyond their own.
